Guest Information

We want to make your time at Grande Vue as easy and enjoyable as possible. This guide includes everything you need to know during your stay – from breakfast and parking to house rules, Wi-Fi and local tips.

  • I’ve called Hobart home for nearly 20 years and I genuinely adore this little city. From brilliant food and wine to cosy cafés, scenic walks and easy day trips, there’s so much to enjoy. Rather than list everything, this guide brings together the places I truly love and return to often – think of it as a curated Hobart short-list. Ash (Owner & Manager, Grand Vue Hotel)

You can explore the full guide here: [A Guide to Hobart & Beyond]

  • Your room is thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including:

    • Luxury robes

    • Portable Dyson heater and cooler

    • Coffee pod machine with complimentary Villino pods

    • Kettle, toaster, microwave, small fridge, tableware, and kitchen sink for light meals or snacks

    Bathroom Essentials

    • Mr. Smith Australian-made hair and body products

    • Hairdryer, shower caps, and extra toilet paper for your convenience

  • We offer a complimentary light start to the day in our guest kitchen, where you can help yourself to a thoughtfully curated Tasmanian spread. Expect locally made yoghurt, seasonal fruit compotes, fresh fruit, gourmet mueslis, artisan breads with preserves and marmalades, pure Tasmanian juices, and a selection of quality teas and compostable Villino coffee pods. It’s designed to be light, fresh and locally sourced – the perfect way to begin your day before exploring Hobart.

We also love to bake a cake a couple of times a week, and you’ll often find biscuits and other sweet treats from local bakeries, along with fresh fruit. Please help yourself and make yourself at home.

A quick note on using the guest kitchen:

    • Please pop any used dishes in the dishwasher, rather than leaving them in the sink.

    • Please store any personal food in your in-room fridge.

    • For safety reasons, oven and cooktop use isn’t permitted, but each room has a microwave for reheating simple meals and snacks.

While we don’t provide a full cooked breakfast, Battery Point and the surrounding area are full of excellent cafés for a hot breakfast or brunch. You’ll find my current favourites here

  • Check-in is available from 3:00pm, and check-out is by 11:00am.

As we're a small boutique hotel with a limited team, late check-outs after 11:00am require booking an additional night.

When checking out, please leave your room key and parking permit in the box on the reception desk—thank you!

You're very welcome to leave your bags with us and collect them later in the day.
If you plan to return after check-out, please note that you’ll need to collect a separate key to access the front door.

Kindly note that our complimentary sweet treats and light breakfast options are reserved for guests staying at the hotel that evening only. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Cooling

Each room is designed to stay comfortable in warmer weather with:

    • Ceiling fans

    • A Dyson heater/cooler

    • Windows that open to let in fresh air

    On hot days, we recommend:

    • Keeping the curtains or blinds closed while you’re out to help keep the room cool

    • Opening the windows when you return to enjoy the afternoon sea breeze, which naturally cools the hotel most days

    Why no air conditioning?

To preserve Grande Vue’s heritage charm and original architecture, we’ve chosen not to install traditional air conditioning. Modern units can be visually intrusive and often quite noisy, which can take away from the peaceful atmosphere of the house.

Instead, we encourage guests to experience Tasmania’s ever-changing seasons in a more natural way. Open the windows, breathe in the fresh air, and listen to the birds outside. Let the sea breeze drift through your room

  • Stroll down the driveway to discover our newly renovated terrace and gardens, offering stunning views across the water. It’s the perfect spot to relax and unwind — whether you’re enjoying breakfast, afternoon tea, or simply soaking up the scenery. You’ll find comfy seating and a table and chairs available for you to enjoy your goodies outdoors.

  • Our hydronic heating keeps the hotel comfortably warm at around 22.5°C from 5:30am–10:30pm, and 18°C overnight for a restful sleep.

    Each room has:

    • A heating panel, and

    • A heated towel rail in the bathroom.

You can adjust the room temperature using the knobs on the heating panels:

    • Turn the knob towards the larger numbers to increase the heat (this opens the valve more and lets more hot water through).

    • Turn it towards the smaller numbers to reduce the heat.

    • Turn it all the way to “0” to switch it off completely.

Please be gentle with the knobs, as they are very costly to replace.

During the warmer months, we switch the central hydronic heating off. For those random cooler summer nights, each room has a Dyson heater/cooler, and there are extra blankets provided in your room wardrobe.

  • Our hotel art collection, sourced in collaboration with Handmark Gallery Salamanca, features local talents.

Here’s a quick guide to the artworks in our spaces:

  • To request a room refresh, simply hang the tassel on your door handle by 12pm. Our team will remove rubbish, make your bed, do a light surface clean, and replace any items as needed.

If you'd like fresh towels, please leave the used items (towels, hand cloths, or face washers) on the bathroom floor.

Spare toilet paper can be found behind the bathroom mirrors.

For longer stays, we’re happy to refresh your bed linen every three days to align with our sustainability practices - just let us know.
